You may be an "aweful parent" but I'd guess that you and so many others are just an ILL TRAINED parent. You're not aweful...your uninformed...IMO.

Assuming that there ever was "effective communication", I'd get started learning as much as possible from books, training classes, counseling and/or whatever you can find to expand your understanding and skills about the kids. It shouldn't take very much study and training to aquire the skills to help your kids be happy.
