Just use your home field advantage... Invite the boys to play at your house/yard. This way you can supervise them and get to know them a little. Bake something and share it with their mom over coffee or somthing. Satisfy your curiosity and (hopefully) relieve your paranoia by being a good nieghbor. This will give all of you a chance to "check eachother out".
