7 year old son is making me crazy!!!!

I need some advice about my 7 year old before I lose what is left of my sanity!!! He is extremely attached to me. I can not even have a shower without him coming to the door and asking me for something. I give him things to do, we do lots together. He will not even go outside to play alone. I have to practically kick him out of the house to go play with a friend, and then 10 minutes later he brings the friend home!!! I am a stay at home mom, and have been since he was born. I did have one part time job, but I quit because he needed me. I participate in school activites, in fact his grade one class thought I was their teacher. Is this a stage??? Am I doing something wrong??? I have an 11 year old daughter and she was never like this. I know each child is different, but my goodness. Help please
