For the most part my son has always slept in the bed with me, even when I was married. I think now that I'm seperated I feel that we shouldn't sleep in seperate rooms. Plus he's still small. I remember when I was young, I had my own room but my mom ended up buying two twin beds and putting them in my brother's room so that I wouldn't sleep alone. I finally slept in my own room till the age of 5.
I will try to change the routine especially now that I'm going back to work. It's funny that you mention gradmas home, its worse there. He gets away with more there he even sleeps with my parents.
Now I have a question about your step sons' situation if you don't mind me asking: Does he try sleeping in your bed when he's at your home or does he only do this with his mom?
I have tried to put my son in his own bed in his room but he still wakes up at night and he goes right into my room. Let's see how it goes for me once I change the schedule.
