Just don't let him go in bed with you, once you start it will be hard to break him. Is he in a crib or bed? My twins are 1 1/2 they go through stages of sleeping really great then not so good I think they are adjusting and learning as much as I am. Just tonight one would not go to sleep for anything so I took her for a car ride and sure enough out like a light. Sometimes it is good to change the routine. I also like the previous suggestion to make some type of wall so when he wakes he won't see you.
