 | My son is 11yrs old and in a special education class. He has been in the "I.E.P."system since 1997. Around fourth grade his anger management skills,(at school only) were becoming a problem that no one knew how to handle. Only when prevoked at school he was unable to control his temper or his actions. He had aquired a male defiance disorder they call it. why? i dont know. coping with the suspensions and the schools it became almost unbareable, it did i finally pulled him out of school 5th grade to homeschool. yeah it was the best thing for him. before i did though he had worked really hard to earn all priviledges back through therapy and determination on his part he didn't have to go half days he got recess back and he even raised his levels of reading from K-1 to 3-4 and math from 1-2 to 5-6th grade levels. well then he had a problem . i took him out. now the next year comes 6th grade , all is good doing great no problems, 3mths pass and wham a TEACHER,decides that Nic is going to go to the office(yes, he was ssupposed to anyway) but he is not doing the right thing he decides (10min till schools out)he is going home, he has alot of office experience and they never seem to want to hear his side of the story, well the teacher tells him off the scooter, my son say"no" the adult grabs the scooter preceeds to take it from the student, it becomes a "TUG-O-WAR" push and pull and yank and shove the fight is on well needless to say my son and his anger got the best of him, and they ran us out of the school(i was also working there)they said it was ok(the admin and staff) they said that they didnt feel safe with him, on the school grounds. ok it is hard to follow without all the little details but... it was wrong, the teacher could have acted like an adult i said, he could have called the police when he left the campus, suspended him for leaving whatever but i ask why would a teacher(by the way took a week off because his job will never be the same again.) i say then you should not have put yourself up against a child that you knew was in the spec day class. not knowing exactly what the disability was. and what gives them the right to put their havds on my child and provoke him into the kind of situation that ends up making him look like the bad kid. which he is far from. i could go on and on.. but where do i go to find out what i can do about my sons rights being violated and his education being set back?? i want him to have to take some parenting classes since they are the ones with child handling problems. we went without incident for 3 mths.. then we transfered then doing great again.. and bam 3mths later... it gets worse this time my son got hurt.....now what??? i say if they are going to have special education classes on their campus they need to make sure that all their teachers and staff are specially educated!!!!! |
