Top On-the-Road Entertainment Picks for Families

by Robert Needlman, M.D., F.A.A.P. and Mona Behan
reviewed by Lynn Cates, M.D., F.A.A.P.
On a long trip, there usually comes a time when the family's exhausted their share of ready conversation, the "License Plate Game" and "Ghost" have lost their appeal, and the kids have started to use their best WWF moves on each other. Might be time to whip out one of the many on-the-road entertainment options available today. Whether it's a book on tape, some much-loved tunes, or a family movie, these diversions can give everyone a little downtime and a chance to recharge their batteries before the next marathon session of "Twenty Questions." Here are our admittedly subjective top picks.

Music - Even families with diverse musical tastes can find common ground when it comes to tunes to enjoy while traveling.

Audiobooks - A well-done book on tape (or CD) can make the miles fly by for parents and kids alike.

Movies - Some flicks are naturals for long car trips.
