Stool Tool Instructions

The Anticonstipation Log (or "stool tool") can help you keep track of your child's constipation in a positive way. It is a calendar that has places to record your child's toilet-sitting practices, the medication you've given her and the results (that is, the BMs produced). This information can help you decide if you need to change something in your child's diet or switch medications. It also can help you to communicate more efficiently with your child's doctor so that you, your child, and her doctor can work together most effectively as a team.

The stool tool is quite useful in monitoring your child's progress, but you don't want the recording process to feel like work to your youngster. To make it more fun, and to add a little incentive, you can incorporate smiley faces or other colorful stickers. If your child is artistic, she might want to decorate around the border of the chart, to make it "hers." The chart covers two weeks, and you can make as many copies of the form as you need.
