Myth: There Are "Hot Lots" of Vaccine

by Lynn Cates, M.D., F.A.A.P.
reviewed by Laura Jana, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Myth: There are "hot lots" of vaccine that have been associated with more adverse events and deaths than others. Parents should find the numbers of these lots and not allow their children to receive these vaccines.

Fact: To date, no individual vaccine lot has been found to be unsafe on the basis of Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) reports. These reports can be submitted by anyone--parents as well as healthcare providers--who thinks a vaccine may have caused a side effect. In addition, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has the ability to recall any vaccine lot at the first sign of a problem. If a vaccine is available to you, the FDA considers it safe.
