Foods for Toddlers in Daycare

Here are some specific foods to send to daycare with your toddler:

High protein foods
  • Sliced turkey

  • Chopped chicken moistened with gravy or milk

  • Chicken nuggets

  • Fish sticks

  • Beans and rice (moist)

  • Meatballs with or without sauce; made with ground chicken, turkey, or beef

  • Cottage cheese

  • American cheese (cubed)

  • Yogurt

  • Boiled egg

  • Canned beans (rinsed); try kidney, pinto, cannelini, or chickpeas

  • Macaroni and cheese, ravioli, tortellini

Vegetables and fruit
  • Cooked carrot slices or sticks

  • Cooked broccoli trees

  • Baked or boiled sweet potato chunks

  • Baked or boiled winter squash chunks

  • Frozen peas (frozen keeps the shape integrity, easier for little fingers to pick up)

  • Sliced ripe fruit

  • Canned fruit packed in water or juice

  • A small banana

Mixed food
  • French toast cut in narrow slices

  • Frozen waffles

  • Tiny pancakes with applesauce for dipping

  • Pasta/meat dishes

  • Cheese omelet

  • Fortified low-sugar cereal with yogurt or milk

  • Peas and rice
