Childbirth Classes

Many couples go into the labor and delivery process not knowing what to expect. Fear of the unknown can make what should be one of the most wonderful experiences of your life into one of the worst. Childbirth education classes can make a world of difference as you prepare for the birth of your child.

Why should I go to childbirth classes?

  • Get educated.
    You will learn about what physically happens to your body as your baby makes his or her way into this world.


  • Address your fears.
    Most couples have some element of fear as they approach labor and delivery. When should I go to the hospital? What exactly is an episiotomy? Do I have to be connected to the fetal monitor throughout my labor? How much pain will there be? Knowledge may not quell all anxieties, but it will help you feel more prepared to meet the challenge of childbirth together.


  • Learn techniques to deal with contractions.
    The classes will teach you different methods for dealing with pain. These may include breathing and relaxation exercises, visualization, and comforting activities. Anxiety tends to heighten pain and relaxation diminishes it.


  • Feel more in control.
    Knowledge is power. You will feel less vulnerable if you know exactly what is happening as labor progresses. You will have seen the fetal monitor in class. You will know what the instrument used to break your water looks like, etc. There will be fewer surprises when the day finally arrives.
