Multiple Media Platform Strategy to Create Omnipresent Parenting Channel

Legacy of World's Most Renowned Pediatrician Comes to Life for New Generation of Parents

Menlo Park, CA — May 9, 2001 - The Dr. Spock Company, positioned to become the world's leading parenting media company, today announced its formal company launch. At the same time, the company announced agreements with major media companies that will quickly bring its parenting information and advice to tens of millions of parents.

The Dr. Spock Company, based on the works and timeless parenting philosophies of the late Dr. Benjamin Spock, offers parents trusted, expert information and advice through books, television, the web and other content distribution partnerships. In separate announcements today, the company detailed agreements with the following companies: AOL Time Warner, which will deliver Spock parenting information to AOL and CompuServe users through its parenting and health channels; and Simon & Schuster, which will publish three new Spock books this summer.

Dr. Benjamin Spock's classic parenting book, Baby and Child Care, is the world's second-best seller to the Bible at more than 50 million copies. The content in that book, as well as the majority of Dr. Spock's other intellectual property, will form the basis for The Dr. Spock Company's offerings to consumers on television, in bookstores, over the Internet, and through other media.

Dr. Spock's works will be augmented by some of the world's most respected pediatric and parenting experts. The company has already premiered on television, with the world's first full-length documentary on Sickle Cell Disease, an effort that gained the participation of the Surgeon General of The United States, Dr. David Satcher.
