The Dr. Spock Company Appoints New Members to Board of Directors

Healthcare and Media Leaders to Provide Strategic Counsel to Parenting Media Company

Menlo Park, CA — May 9, 2001 - The Dr. Spock Company, the trusted source for expert advice, information, and inspiration on the health and development of children, today announced new appointments to its board of directors. The two members strengthen The Dr. Spock Company's expertise in delivering expert parenting information through print, broadcast, and online media.

"We are excited to recruit two additional independent board members who can help accelerate our business plan. Landon Jones will clarify our parenting media strategy and our segmentation of the women's market, where he has enjoyed great accomplishment," said Doug Lee, chairperson of the board of directors. "Frank Lordeman will develop plans to execute our expert strategy in parenting, in particular how we deliver experts through broadcast media and to the Internet public."

Landon Jones recently retired as a senior executive at Time, Inc., where he served as vice president of strategic planning. Prior to this assignment, he spent eight years at the helm of People magazine, the most successful weekly publication in the world. Under Jones' leadership, People's circulation reached record highs and, in 1992, the magazine successfully launched its first international edition, Who Weekly. Jones also was responsible for testing and launching InStyle, the phenomenally successful lifestyle monthly magazine, as well as leading the team for People's web site.

Frank Lordeman serves as chief operating officer for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) located in Cleveland, Ohio. Under his leadership, CCF has been nationally recognized as one of the top health organizations in the world, ranking fourth for the second year in a row in U.S. News & World Report's 2000 Honor Roll of Hospitals. Prior to joining the CCF, Lordeman was president and COO of Meridia Hillcrest Hospital, a subsidiary of Meridia Health System.
